Well, first I was annoyed by having to adjust my configuration and all statics - now I am really happy to see (and learn) how much SilverStripe has improved.
For me as Software Developer Silverstripe is a clean and logical mighty tool to have fun working with.
Thanks!
Hendrik

this all look great guys, congrats on the new developments. can i ask for something? i read all the documentation and it looks amazing for a seasoned developer, but not for a regular user, lots of designers and frontend devs learn by example and foo bar baz is not a good way to understand how things work. the other day i was talking with unclecheese and he told me: 'its really clear and well commented' - i read the complete doc twice and it doesnt look clear to me :(

it feels like something is missing (probably a real life example)

if you could post an small example with real content like the model admin CRM or something like that it would be really appreciated by the not hardcore community.

keep up the good work!

Great post Diana!

Having worn both developer and project manager hats, the whole idea if expecting change and emergent requirements is very important... but as you say, having the big spec document is a security blanket for clients.
I have seen it a number of times, by the end of the project you can pretty much throw that document in the bin due to it being now irrelevant based on changes over the project lifecycle.

Writing code is more of a creative and messy process than many clients think and projects rarely follow a straight line from start to end. Niether party wants to take the risks, but if they can be shared and the project more cooperative I think all parties can get good work done with a fair and realistic time/cost/quality balance.

Hi Robert,
thank you for this article.
I would like to know, since Drupal organizes everything in Nodes, it don't have to be Page-Nodes, could be anything I can import, right?
To what kind / what fields of data do I have access after importing. In the screenshot it looks like a tree of pages, but do I get access to all fields defined on the Drupal node?

Hendrik

You've misstated what the GPL requires. There is no requirement to contribute your modifications back. But otherwise essentially correct: a developer can't create work based on GPLed software, and remove the rights granted by the GPL from endusers.

I've clarified with @feejin via IRC: I've falsely referred to SiteTree.MetaDescription being removed, which is still an important SEO feature in core. Instead, we did remove SiteTree.MetaKeywords, where we both agree its irrelevant for SEO these days.

In terms of SiteTree.MetaTitle, @kinglozzer started a poll on the dev mailinglist about this: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/silverstripe-dev/dOB7_rAHCuc
