Hey Frank, there's still our report on tickets marked as "easy", which is a good place to start: http://open.silverstripe.org/report/109.
Unfortunately even triaging tickets in a way that would identify good "starter" tickets for other devs is quite a bit of work. Which means as you get more experienced with SilverStripe core, we'd invite you to help triaging tickets, ensuring the ticket creator has provided enough information etc - if we leave this to the "core team" only, it basically means that a handful of devs spend only an hour every other week on it :) If you're interested, you can also sign up to the RSS fees of all new tickets coming in through http://open.silverstripe.org/timeline

Thanks!
Ingo

An idea about increasing community code contributions: it can be quite hard to find a good ticket to tackle on open.silverstripe.org. Even with all the filters on trac turned on :-p

It would be useful if someone at SilverStripe hand picked a couple of tickets now and again and sent them out to the mailing list or something like that. Ingo has done that in the past and I found it really helpful.

Cheers, the latest SilverStripe is looking awesome!

@Daniel. We will release alpha at the end of the month. So you don't have to wait long. And if you try it out, let us know how you like it.
Cheers Kerstin
