Event Calendar with different themes

23 July 2010 at 7:04am
I'm brand new to SilverStripe and assessing it for my needs. At present it all looks good, but I've run into a problem.
The Event Calendar works fine if I choose the blackcandy theme, but the calendar widget fails to load if I try several of the other themes I downloaded. The "next month" and "previous month" arrows appear, but they return to the main page. The calendar itself simply doesn't appear.
I've flushed the cache, and the themes seem to be fine otherwise. If I switch back to blackcandy, the calendar works fine again.
Of course, I could design another theme from scratch or modify the blackcandy theme, but it would be far easier to take one that is close to what I want.
Any ideas?
Running 2.4, btw.

Crickets chirping...
Happened to me too, exactly as you describe. I've been about to go looking to see what differences exist between the theme I want to use and blackcandy. Although I'm sure that it would be ten minutes work for someone who knew what to look for... Not sure when I'll actually get to this, though.

Are you guys getting any Javascript errors? I don't think the theme should have anything to do with the Javascript.

I decided to style the site from scratch based in Blackcandy instead, so I'm not getting any problems now, but it wasn't giving any JS errors.
I tried about 4 or 5 downloaded themes in all, and they all showed the same behaviour.
As I say, it's not a problem as I shall be styling from scratch. I already have enough for demo purposes.
I've deleted the styles again, but from memory, it affected holeinone, higherground and pixelgreen as well as a couple of others whose names elude me.

I can't imagine why that would be happening. I have dozens of sites using EventCalendar that use their own themes. You can see on the demo site http://eventcalendar.bluehousegroup.com we have our own theme.
Is calendar_widget.js being included in the source?

Strange and interesting. When I look at your demo site link, it shows an error page: [Notice] Undefined variable: iCaltoArray, happening in iCalReader(). Looks like a nil return from iCalList() isn't handled?

Lol.. "Demo" is a bit of a misnomer at this point. Most of the time it's a sandbox. There's often a developer working in there.
Check it now, though.
