For showing and hiding content on specific dates I used to install the Embargo/Expiry module, but if I understand correctly this module has been discontinued, and it's functionality added to the Workflow module.

Is it possible to use the Workflow module just for showing and hiding content on specific dates like the Embargo/Expiry module? The website I'm working on doesn't require a workflow. I just want to show news items on date X, and hide them on date Y. Of course they also can't show up in the search results if it isn't date X yet, or date Y has passed.
