Newsletter Module - Can't Create NL Link to this post

    Hi there,

i'm running Silverstripe 2.4.5 and try to get the Newsletter Module running. I downloaded silverstripe-labs-silverstripe-newsletter-dd2e5a0.tar.gz from https://github.com/silverstripe-labs/silverstripe-newsletter/tarball/master like Willr suggested in thread http://silverstripe.org/all-other-modules/show/17156 . I extracted all files and copied them to the Silverstripe root dir.
I ran /dev/build?flush=1 and several db changes where done. I ran /admin?flush=1 and /admin/newsletter/?flush=1 .

Since then I can create new Subscription Pages (did some test dummies), but i can't create an New Newsletter or new Newsletter Type. The Button 'Create' on /admin/newsletter simply doesn't respond, I am almost sure that it doesn't even send a request.

I guess it's the same problem like http://silverstripe.org/all-other-modules/show/15228 , but as mentioned the button doesn't send any request. (the console just said that there is a /sapphire/thirdparty/tinymce-advcode/langs/de.js missing, since I'm using Silverstripe in german language. I then just copied en.js to de.js).
Unfortunately i don't understand what Zinal means by "I realize that i have given wrong name to folder so i have changed that name and it is working...." in the thread linked above.

Would be grateful for any hint on this bug or any further documentation on the newsletter module. Have to get this thing running und don't really want to re-build all it's functionality ;).

    Thanx a lot!
    SF.

    Hey SilverFish,

I don't recommend the Newsletter module - instead I'd use mailchimp.com (with http://code.google.com/p/silverstripechimpy/). Very simple to intergrate, all the hassle is outsource to mailchimp. And incase you thinking it'll cost - it's free up to 2,000 subscribers (http://mailchimp.com/pricing/)

    Hi swaiba,

after two days of research i find the newsletter module not recommendable, neither, which is quite sad since it seems to base on a good code base and just lacks some good documentation and mantainance / bugfixing.

Besides that, I already realized a mailchimp solution and don't think that this is much better. Especially templating and creating new newsletters is quite a hassle. Also the free version forces you to show a mailchimp logo in the mails which is unacceptable in the current case. I won't say that a mailchimp / silvertstripe solution is bad in itself, but strongly depends on project (customer, end-user) requirements.

    But thanks for answering anyway,
    kind regards
    SF

I understand, Some clients don't mind having the logo and having it for free others would. I don't think there is going to be any different with templates - even with the one time I did use the NL module the templates part was the most time consuming by far.

You should be able to pick and choose your email provider and also remember that NL module is very limited to the size of list it can support, I've never benchmarked it but it's going to have a practical limit of about 2000.

Even though mailchimp is used - I intergrate with many email providers - I'll be curious what you end up with SF...
