Germany SearchForm?

Hi,
i integrated the searchform .. from the "tutorial4:site search" .. but the problem is that i can not search for german letters - like "ä" "ü" "ö" ... i always get "no search results" ...
how can i add these letters so that the search works on this german page.. ??
