Linking directly to an image in a gallery

I'm trying to link to an image in a gallery from another page. I want it to go to the gallery page, and display the image inside the pop-up. Right now, all I can get, is to give a link that will display the image directly (i.e., just download the image). Does the gallery module have the functionality required to open a gallery at a specified file? Some sort of query string perhaps?
