Hi I am very new to cms. I have down loaded silverstripe and am trying to install it on xampp running on osx.

i dropped the folder into the htdocs folder and experienced a number of error messages re permissions. i have changed all the folders and they are now ok but i am unable to alter the .htaccess file. i can not find it in the folder at all. i tried creating a new file using a text editor but the error message still comes up. I also have an error message telling me that i need to alter the config memory to 32M, at present it is 8M. i have no idea how to do this.

thanks in anticipation xtrawideboy

Do a search in xampps directory for the php.ini file. It should be in there. After you edit the memory_limit() you might need to reboot apache.

Don't unzip and then copy the folder to a destinated folder.

Unzip the download IN the folder.
On a Mac with MAMP the .htaccess is not visible. And you will not be able to create one.

So unzipping the download in the correct folder will help.
Did the trick for me.
