multiple galleries

Im looking to implement the gallery on a site we are building per 'product/item' basis rather than everything in the assets library.
each product will have logically named images ie product_name_ID_01_main.jpg
so I'd like a gallery per product that will only show images of **_ID_**_main.jpg
has anyone done something like this with gallery or would I be better of just using lightbox directly to achieve this?

If you have a fairly consistent number of images per product you could just add image-upload fields to pages, and use a page for each product.
Refer to the tutorials where you create staff members with photos. You could just have another few pictures for each staff member.
