top navigation isn't displayed

On my local wamp installation the top navigation is missing. I made a standard installation with the blackcandy theme running. Even with other themes no top links are displayed.

It seems like 'control Menu(1)' is not working here (the surrounding ul's are there).

I installed silverstripe on my shared web host and now even there the navigation is missing:

I don't know what causes this. Am I the only one suffering this problem?

A click in behavior gave me the answer, sorry for posting. But I swear, the first time I installed silverstripe "Show in menus" was set as default.
