Long URLS -what would it take? Link to this post

    Hi,

I've probably raised this question before, but this is a slightly different context.

I'm looking at developing a module for SS so that I can end up using long URLS (e.g. mysite.com/sitearea/topic/subtopic/etc/etc). From a starting point and if I'm gong about it the right way, I'd like to kknow whether or not this would be more sensible in a module or in actually modifying SS itself.

As well as these questions, what would be needed to make SS work with long urls? I'd be keen to get this answered as clearly as possible so that I can asses whether or not developing long urls will be a viable bit of work.

    thanks in advance

    cheers

In addition to this I forgot to mention that it would be nice for any long urls implementation to allow for filename extensions (mock extensions which are really folder names with a dot '.') as well, e.g. mysite.com/sitearea/topic/article.html

    cheers

There is a patch in the works here - http://sstest.grayzagdesign.com/nested-url-s/

It takes URLs in the form of parent/child/grandchild etc

Can't add file extension, might be a bit buggy.

Search the forum for sub urls or nested urls and you can find the topic with discussion on the patch.

AJShort is working on this patch so it would work with the newest/coming version of SS.

There's also something going on with getting this into a stable release - but perhaps not until SS 2.4... let's hope 2.3...

    Here's the 'official' discussion:
