Integrated authentication & phorum

Hi.
I have a webdev business in Tasmania and we're looking at going from modx to silverstripe.One of the problems I've noticed is authentication between different apps.
We want to use silverstripe with http://phorum.org as as it's the superior option.
I find no mention of phorum on the site and wondered if anyone's had any experience with it.
