Will it work with Oracle or SQL Server?

11 July 2007 at 3:04pm
Hi Folks. SilverStripe looks superb. I would like to set it up for a small group at work. I can support Oracle and SQL Server databases in-house. So just wondering whether it can work with these? Is it as simple as configuring the PHP engine to connect to Oracle?

Hi,
At the end of Summer Of Code, we'll have multi-database support including support for MS SQL Server. You can expect that roughly in October 2007. Currently, we only support MySQL.
As part of multi-db support we'll have the framework in place to support Oracle, so adding Oracle support will be much easier once multi-db support is there.
cheers,
Brian

Thanks Brian for such a quick response!
I think I'll install it with MySQL anyway, and just mark the system as "evaluation only". That should get around issues with introducing another database platform

Sweet. These forums are a good place for you to ask questions in general during your evaluation.
Good luck!
