Help for beginner - making site public

18 July 2008 at 10:04am
I have been building a site in Silverstripe and all is fine...even added a Gallery and blog. We are now ready to make the site public and I have a problem with the web address.
I want all of the pages to show up like this:
www.sitename.com/galleryRight now the are in:
www.sitename.com/silverstripe-v2.2.2/silverstripe-v2.2.2/galleryI tried adding a .htaccess file in root with
DirectoryIndex /silverstripev2.2.2/silverstripe-v2.2.2/
that caused me to not even be able to login as admin.
Our webpage has a generic index.html file that basically says that we have a web page. Thanks in advance!

Still looking for help on this. JZM tried his best to help me...hats off to him!...but i still was not able to get things working right. For the time being, i changed my pre-existing index.htm file to re-direct to:
www.sitename.com/silverstripe-v2.2.2/silverstripe-v2.2.2/though this works for now, it's not "clean".
I thought that when we were done building our pages in Silverstripe and publishing them...a file could be changed to point all regular web addresses to the longer address shown above without the user seeing all the directory structures.
Thanks,
Dave
