Install folder not accessible. htaccess error on Apache 2.2.9

Hello,
I failed to install SS on my Apache 2.2.9 server because I get an Error 500 everytime I try to access http://localhost/silverstripe
Here is the record in Apache error.log:
[Tue Jul 22 06:07:23 2008] [alert] [client 127.0.0.1] C:/xampp/htdocs/silverstripe/.htaccess: Expected </html><head><title> but saw </title></head>
Looks like Apache finds some kind of syntax error in .htaccess
