Image issues

I am converting an existing website to function with this CMS. I have the layout and everything working great. However, I have an issue. Whenever I insert an image through the admin panel, it stretches the image to a width of 575px. I cant get them to change with CSS, or by adding width/height attributes in the html code. I have also tried changing the "width" setting at the bottom of the "image" tab (where you can upload images).
Has anyone encountered this problem before, or is there a tweek to fix it?
