Error:The website server has not been able to respond to your request.

Ok, so when i go to the admin site (mysite.com/admin) i can get to the login bit , but after I enter my details it takes me to a page that just says what the above says.
Also the build database db/build/?flush=1 is not updating.
I tried changing a certain page. If I flush the particular URL it shows the updated page but otherwise it will not show the updated page.
Any ideas?

thats the generic error message and its not all to helpful. You can view full blown error pages if you put the site into dev mode. You can do this by adding
to your mysite/_config.php file.Director::set_environment_type("dev");
