Hey there, I have downloaded the silverstripe software and are downloading WampServer (still on dialup..lol). I will start making my way thru the tutorial tomorrow. My question for now is regarding domains and hosting as I'm a complete newbie. BY using silverstripe this isn't putting my website on the net its just creating the text/code...right? SO i will still need to purchase a domain name and get the site hosted once its designed correct?

Thanks

Correct in a sense. You create/use a theme with different templates, creating new pages within the CMS which get put into the database. The templates and data are then compiled to create your website.

Using Wamp will build your website offline so you will need a domain and hosting if you wish to put it on the web. Once your sites built, been tested and you/your client is happy you then ftp all the files within htdocs to the domains htdocs, making sure that you also add the invisible .htaccess file and then export the local database to your server. Run a db/build?flush=1 and you should get a working site.

Well thats my poor effort to explain SS and the web. Maybe someone else can explain more clearly : D
