I'm a web designer based in the UK. I've just built a basic HTML site for a client which can be found at www.christinafrench.com

On the site she wanted a Painting of The Month page which can be updated obviously on a monthly basis, however she doesn't want to pay me to do it, therefore I need to find a solution to this problem.
Can Silverstripe be set up to just update that one page or would it have been better to have built the entire site using Silverstripe from the beginning? All she needs to update is the picture and the small bit of text above the picture which descibes it.

I was considering using something like Adobe contribute , but after consulting with a web designer colleague of mine he suggested using a CMS, so this is my first tentative steps into the realms of CMS. Any help or pointers that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Yes SS would be good for that.

IMHO the site should be build it SS. Once you get a grasp on how it works then you'll be wanting to build most sites in it.

You would have an image field and a textfield which would just need changing in the backend and once saved and published it would update the visible page.

There is also a gallery module that can be added to the basic package - at no extra cost! - in which your client could also add images of their paintings to once completed.

I suggest, if you have time to, that you should run a copy of Silverstripe and follow the tutorials to give you a good understanding of what you could potentially do for your client. And have a look at the modules too.

Or you could have a look at the demo if you do not have time to explore the CMS yourself.

1 question.. I want to test the installation. I want to install Silverstripe on the same server that the existing site is hosted on, can it all be installed in a directory on that server so that the rest of the files don't get interfered with.

I've set up a folder on the server called test and set up a sub-domain on the server pointing to that directory, it's here that I would like to install it.

Any thoughts??
