I read the posts by carola and find myself in the same situation, even down to using Net24. Like her I got the PCW dvd and had a go. Like her I am a web noob. As much as I'd like to go down the same track and struggle every step of the way surely there is a "silverstripe for dummies" tutorial that explains in simple terms what you have to do to get your site posted ?
I'm hoping this will be soon as like carola I am paying for hosting I can't use at the moment. Perhaps publisher wasn't so bad..............
We've moved the forum!

A tutorial is on our todo list just takes time to come round and publish! But heres another quick break down
1) Download a brand new shiny copy of silverstripe to your computer and upload this to your host normally in the 'www' or public_html folder using an FTP client such as SmartFTP on windows.
The reason I do this first is this is a test to make sure the server / hosting will support SilverStripe and make sure everything like the database works fine!
2) Once you have installed SS to your live webserver you need to do 3 or 4 things to get your site from your local copy to the live server
* Copy your theme (the html / css / images)
* Copy your custom code (the php code)
* Export the Database from WAMP and import it on the live site
The top 2 should be easy. If you have made a site with a theme 'MyLovelyTheme' in the themes/ folder copy this from your computer to the same place in the live site. Eg copy the whole MyLovelyTheme folder to your livesites themes/ folder.
Same with the code. Copy the contents of the mysite/code/* folder on your local to the same place on the live site (mysite/code/*).
Exporting the DB is a bit more tricky. If you have 'Phpmyadmin' installed on your local computer then you can go into that by visiting http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ or something similar. Then select your database on the left hand side. Click it. Then once it loads you need to click the 'Export' tab on the top center right of the page.
Make sure you have ticked the 'Add Drop Table / Drop view' option and the 'Save as File' option then click Go down the bottom.
Hopefully your host has PHPmyadmin as well so now we want to import that file you saved in the last step to your live website. So login to phpmyadmin on your live server and select the database on the left you setup the site with. Once you have clicked your database and it has loaded then click the Import tab at the top center right of the page, select the file you made in the last step and click 'Go'. This will import the database.
3) Try and visit your site :) and see what i've forgotten to mention!
Docs are good. If they're not available you can always ask in the irc channel as well. #silverstripe on irc.freenode.net
and im writing a detailed page on the wiki as we speak :P With ScreenShots!
OK, I have got this far.
Downloaded File Zilla, downloaded new SS - unzipped it and extracted it to my desktop. Uploaded new SS to /httpdocs/ on host server using thier ftp instructions.
Tried to browse to mydomain.co.nz and get "If you see this page, it means that you have set up your web server for serving a new site, but have not uploaded the site content yet."
Go back to the httpdocs/silverstripe-v2.2.2/ directory and check all folders are there - OK.
What is the next thing to do please ? Sorry am a noob...............
"blah blah"
Could you ask that again in the form of a question?
Sorry Gareth - my bad.
