Has anyone used Fasthosts to host Silverstripe?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mishy,
I'm just trying this right now (11:02PM) as i'm uploading my latest silverstripe site to a fasthosts account.
The first hurdle i hit was the fact that Fasthosts charge you for a database! All i needed was a small mysql DB, and they charged the client £25 a year for it (plus their hosting!).
Also, by default, Fasthosts try and sell windows hosting, which would be a pain to setup compared to a linux box. I've had to switch their hosting to linux just to get this to work effortlessly.
Well, it's 11:05PM now, still got 70% of the upload to go, so will let you know how i get on!

quick update.
Files uploaded quickly, and upon a quick glance over the install.php page, i noticed that the script can't tell if the server is apache or not.
I continued any ways, and i saw in the installation process that mod_rewrite managed to work, so i can assume that it was running apache.
However, i now have this issue!
Will post when i resolve.

Woo Hooo!
It's all working nicely. Finally it's all setup on Fasthosts!
Basically, i had an issue with the sql settings, but other than that, it seems to run no problems on Fasthosts.
For your info, the packages that i setup SS in (Fasthosts packages) were:
- Linux Home
- 128 MB MySQL DatabaseAlthough their database method is a little clumsy (and bloody expensive!) it's all working fine.
Hope that helps.

Hi Gareth.
Please can you help.
I think I'm suffering similar problems to you attempting to install SilverStripe on a Fasthosts Linux server. (150mb MySQL for Linux DB)
Would it be possible to ask how you managed to solve your problem.
Below are the Requirements I'm failing on:
1. Is the .htaccess file writeable?
User 'domain???' needs to be able to write to this file:
.htaccess2. Server software
I can't tell what webserver you are running.
Without Apache I can't tell if mod_rewrite is enabled.3. mod_rewrite enabled
I can't tell whether mod_rewrite is running.
You may need to configure a rewriting rule yourself.Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, DH.
