Control the content in the sidebar

I want to have content in the sidebar and be able to edit it much like an actual pages content.
Can anyone point me in the direction of how i might go about doing this?

Walk through the tutorials to see how to add extra fields to your pages.
If you want to re-use the content in the sidebar, please search the forum...
