One click file download from admin/assets

I've been trying to make it possible to download a file from the assets section without first opening the file details window. I have successfully added a new link in the list (AssertTableField.ss) which point directly at the file and works in Firefox. The problem is that in IE the detail window/iframe still opens. I then tried to make a Director::redirect of the frame in AssertTableField.php to the file hoping that would promt a download but I keep getting the 404 page instead.

Any idea how to circumvent the ajax detail window?

Any help is much appreciated.
