one site tree per language

Hi!
Anybody having already build a multi-languages site with one page tree per language?
If yes, how have you managed the translation of text inside the templates? Of courses I could create one copy of each template for each language, but I'm sure there's a more elegant solution.
A big thanks for any suggestion and/or code.
