SilverStripe supported web hosts

18 June 2007 at 10:41am Last edited: 18 June 2007 10:41am
Hi there,
I'd like to breathe a bit of life into our "suggested web hosts" page on the wiki:
http://doc.silverstripe.com/doku.php?id=suggested-web-hostsRight now, there are a few hosts listed, but I want to know if people have actually managed to successfully install SilverStripe on the given hosts, or if it's just a case of someone seeing that PHP5 is supported.
So - let us know - which web hosts have you successfully got SilverStripe running on? If possible, give us links to the site!

You can add our business partner for managed hosting in Holland.
Keenondots (http://www.keenondots.com). Excellent service , rock solid hosting and yes, we've got Silverstripe up and running !

I have a test setup running OK on 1and1.co.uk (one and one). This is a shared linux server.
Note that I have not tested all the features and it is not in production use.
It did need a tweak to get it running:
1. Add a temporary 1-line .htaccess as follows:
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
This is needed to cause the files to parse as PHP5.2. Install as normal and it will probably fail at the last step.
3. Get the .htaccess from the server and edit so the top lines are:
### SILVERSTRIPE START ###
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /4. Upload this file.
Note - if you have had the account on 1and1 for a while, you may have an old version of MySQL. Contact support about this as they can usually upgrade you (you may have to slightly change your account.)
Speed seems OK, but not blisteringly fast.

I checked out your phpinfo file, and it's showing eAccelerator is installed, does that come standard with them? I can't tell from their site.Overall I am looking for a hosting provider that comes with some sort of caching system included (Xcache, eAccelerator, etc), anybody have any good ideas?

hi....
Don't want to turn this thread into a spam list, but I know a very good host in Holland which has xCache installed on their (fast) servers and pretty high memory limits for php scripts. ;-)
Dunno what you location is , but you can mail me for details....

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but I have a VPS box where I host about 20 sites and growing. Is it worth it to install xCache? None of the sites are high traffic at all. I've read up on it a bit, but I'm not sure the trade off of memory usage is worth it on a VPS.
