Very Basic Question, hope anyone could help.

20 November 2008 at 5:23pm
I'm sorry, because im new to this type of CMS,
Honestly when browsing the demo, showcase and overview, i'm falling in love with this cms.Unfortunately, unlike another CMS, i got many problems just after installing it.
I don't know where is the settings page where i can edit just the basic setting for SiteName, themes, modules, and block.
Once again, i'm sorry if this is a stupid question, i have search the whole board and couldn't find the answer.

There is no settings page. The idea behind SS is to keep the admin area just for content editors, and make the developers take care of the 'settings' in the config file and page files. This keeps things simple, clean and better organized.
I'd start with walking through the tutorials - http://doc.silverstripe.com/doku.php?id=tutorials
Can also read the starting page of the docs in order. http://doc.silverstripe.com/doku.php?id=
Has sub pages on themes and modules for example.
Takes some time to get a hang of things if you're new to it, but I believe it is well worth it.

To answer your question - how to change the site name theres lots of threads on it and even on the wiki - http://doc.silverstripe.com/doku.php?id=recipes:change_site_name_and_tagline .

Ok, thank you LeeUmm and willr, im going to browse the docs and tutorial.
since you said that there is no settings page, i think it can be rather hard to manage even for developer.now, another stupid question is, how to just change default blackcandy theme to charity...
i have downloaded charity and uploaded it into themes folder...i have edited mysite/_config.php
// This line set's the current theme. More themes can be
// downloaded from http://www.silverstripe.com/cms-themes-and-skin
SSViewer::set_theme('charity');
?>but in the site, it's nothing changed.
until now, i still found no enough reason to choose this cms as a powerful one.
at least if i compare with CMS made simple, the cms i used to build website with.im sorry if you say then there is nothing should be compared here.. i know that decision is on me then.
NB: I'm sorry again, but my English is under construction

got this error when replying this post
- Is any error with this version of the forum. If you take too long to make a post (think about 20 minutes max). Just hit back, grab your content, refresh the page and try again it should be fine.
As for installing the theme after you edit that line you need to do 1 more thing which is refresh the site cache and you do that by visiting yoursite.com?flush=1. Sometimes html etc are cached.
