Tutorial 2 - not picking up files breadcrumbs.ss and menu2.ss

I have been working my way through Tutorial 2 and got to the part about using include statements. I have created the above files in the include folder and changed the appropriate files to pick them up. However when I run the site the breadcrumbs feature no longer appears on the article page (it did prior to creating the include files).
Help Please?
