Hey, I'm thinking of transferring my entire site to silverstripe CMS. I've been messing with the demo, and it's really sweet.

However, I have two questions:

How do you create a tab where, when a user clicks it, it takes them to a URL instead of a page. For example, I want to add a custom forum, and when they click on the tab, it takes them to the forum...

Second question: does anybody know any themes for SMF, MyBB, or phpBB that match the default silverstripe theme? I want to add a forum that looks very similar to the silverstripe theme, and I don't want to mess with the beta forum yet...lol. Or do you recommend that I try the beta forum out? Does it have all the features of this forum?

I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice. Thanks!

Hi Alec,

Welcome to the SilverStripe community! :)

> How do you create a tab where, when a user clicks it, it takes them to a URL instead of a page. For example, I want to add a custom forum, and when they click on the tab, it takes them to the forum...

1. Click on the "Site Content" (has a green and blue globe icon, this is so that the link will be in the top level menu and not a child of another page)
2. Click the "Create" link.
3. Change the drop-down that appears from "Page" to "a redirector to another page"
4. Click the "Go" button.
5. Now on the right under the "This page will redirect users to another page" heading, across from "Redirect to" choose "Another website"
6. In the "Other websiteURL" box, put the complete URL to your forums page, for example: "http://example.com/forums/"

> Or do you recommend that I try the beta forum out? Does it have all the features of this forum?

I don't know about themes, but I'm pretty sure that the beta forum has all the features of this forum. I'm pretty sure some needed features like bbcode will be added soon. :)

Have a great weekend,

Elijah

Hey Alec, glad you like silverstripe so far that is awesome.

"How do you create a tab where, when a user clicks it, it takes them to a URL instead of a page."

- Open up the cms. To make sure you the tab will be in the top level click Site Content in the left hand bar site tree. Then click Create and in the drop down box that appears select 'Create a redirector to another page' click go and then fill out the details for that page in the right hand editor.

"Second question: does anybody know any themes for SMF, MyBB, or phpBB that match the default silverstripe theme?"

I havent seen any. I designed the blackcandy theme from scratch but there might be a generic phpBB forum design that suits it. Check out their themes page http://www.phpbb.com/styles/db/index.php?i=browse&mode=popular&sub=downloads

"Or do you recommend that I try the beta forum out? Does it have all the features of this forum? "

Of course try the beta forum out. It actually has more features then this forum at the moment (emails when replys..etc) but basically its the same forum you see here. And we have done some basic testing of the forum module with blackcandy so it should work just plug and play!

Good Luck

Hey, thanks a bunch for the quick responses.

That's pretty cool. I'm gonna FTP silverstripe to my webserv and I'll try it out right away.
