What is OpenID?

While I can seem to add members to a group, the added members are not shown in the security panel. I have tried bot IE and FireFox, deleted Cache. The database shows the meberships though.
Running 2.2.2 on OpenSuse 10.1 with PHP 5.2.6
EDIT: Just tried the listing in Newsletter. Members are not displayed here either.
