mashups and gallery install problems

for some reason i can not get the mashups and gallery modules to show up. after i upload them to my ss root directory i run /db/build and it does its thing and i see mashups and gallery there but when i go to the admin panel and look at site content they do not show up. and have removed and re-uplaoded several times. and i just uplaoded the forum module and it worked perfect. any ideas here?
