Unfortunately, though, that module broke the cms for my site. Also, my intent was to have the external content integrated into the blog module so that the feed entries would be intermixed with the user created blog entries rather than on a separate page. Does anyone have a good idea on how I might do this?

Hi theoldlr,

There is a module called rssaggregator. You can add rss sources (i.e. http://silverstripe.org/blog/rss) and display them as a blog.

Hi Mike,

I've tested 2.4 beta-2 and blog/trunk and they seem to work fine.

just a few points:
- you can't create blog holders under a blog holder, you can just create blog entries.
- you can create blog trees and blog holder under blog trees.

so it;s something like:

BlogTree -> BlogHolder -> BlogEntry.

2.4 beta-2 blog errors

Please be aware I am a newbie not a developer

All areas of my (quite basic) site are working fine in 2.4 beta-2 except the blog module( latest trunk build).

the initial blog page opens ok, in the drop-down box to to create a page, there is only a blog entry, no blog holder,
try and create blog entry and the icon is in the site tree but the cms freezes with a `parsed javascript errors` in red.

I have to rebuild to use the cms again

auto blog entry from RSS feed?

Is it possible to use an RSS feed from another site/blog to create entries into the SS blog module? I have seen snippets of examples that create links to the external articles on the blog, but none that add them as an entry to your own blog. Is this possible? All advice/links appreciated.

Fatal error: Class 'SSHTMLBBCodeParser_Filter' not found

Hey All,

I had a customer who could not get the blog module to work on our shared hosting with the above error.
I thought it would be helpful to share the issue with the community to enable you to run Silverstripe on many main stream hosts.
As of PHP5, a security hole which allowed scripts to set the include paths over the Admin level settings has now been removed.

As such the _config under Sapphire which tries to set the parsers path fails.

Depending on host there are a few ways to fix it.

1) Remove or comment out any include path in php.ini
2) Remove or comment out any include path in .htaccess
3) Add the actual path into the vhost / php.ini file.

Many hosts, us included, set PEAR paths at server level and this ultimately breaks Silverstripe. This can be fixed by removing or setting the path at Admin level.

I hope this will help reduce 'hair pulling' for many who wonder why they get the 'something bad has happened' warning after adding the blog folder.

You will need to use developer mode to see the error which is detailed elsewhere on this forum.

I have my svn client (running Cornerstone on MacOs) pointing to the following two repositories and have not had an issue with the Blog in a while.

For SS 2.4: http://svn.silverstripe.com/open/phpinstaller/branches/2.4
For Blog: http://svn.silverstripe.com/open/modules/blog/trunk

Works a charm...I just now have to figure out how BlogTrees work in relation to Holders and Entries....

You could use CSS to hide the text over the background image. Can do this via making the padding of the button the height of the background and using overflow hidden. Do a quick google for styling submit buttons and you'll probably come across a bunch more.

Mo - upgrade to the latest 2.4 build. The date time functionality has been refactored in 2.4 but if you are using the beta it won't be included. Blog trunk has been updated to fit that new post 2.4 beta API - http://open.silverstripe.org/changeset/99407/modules/blog/trunk

submit button on comments

I have changed the action/submit button on the comments section to an image.... but the text 'post' is still appearing. How can i remove this text from the action/submit button?

it is showing up as a result of value atrribute on the input submit button.

baba-papa posted this after I tried the frontend part of the blog module where I was able to create a fresh blog post without any problems or obstacles. In the backend I still get the same fatal php error as you do.

Blog hasn't worked for me for a little while now in 2.4. Keep getting:

PHP Fatal error: Class 'DatetimeField' not found in /Users/morvenlewis-everley/Documents/NetbeansProjects/Silverstripe/cello_main/blog/code/BlogEntry.php on line 80, referer: http://localhost:8081/cello_main/admin/cms/

I am using the trunk version of blog. I know DatetimeField has been depreciated in 2.4, but I wasn't aware it had been in the Beta 1 release?

I am checking Silverstripe out of /tags/beta/2.4.0-beta1/, is this the best place to check 2.4 out of?

I am also having this issue... If you have found the solution, I'd like to know... Maybe I am just tired... Happened across this CMS by accident, excited to have a new toy to play with. If theme is important I am using the Call of Duty 2 theme. And have watched the tutorial video several times.

Yeah, I did try using that-- it works and removes the scripts,-- but it still writes a bunch of JS to the page even without these script attachments. Just loose in-page script at the bottom:

simon_w has rewritten page comments to use jquery - http://open.silverstripe.org/ticket/4814. Not been merged into core just yet.

Hi,

I have a custom jQuery dropdown menu I use on my blog module. This works fine on the BlogHolder, but on the BlogEntry template, No matter WHAT I do, I CANNOT keep these SIX javascripts from attaching themselves:

prototype.js
behaviour.js
prototype_improvements.js
i18n.js
en_US.js
Validator.js

I have commented the Requirements lines in PageCommentInterface.php, in addition to setting use_ajax_commenting to false, in PageCommentInterface.php as well as in _config.php, but they STILL get attached to the page! I HAVE to remove these as the code conflicts with elements/functionality already in my template.

Does anyone know how to remove this, or is there a jQuery Page Comment Interface available?

I'm running SS 2.3.6.

to the function FormatI18N also helped me to solve an "umlaut" - bug with "märz".

I need to add another allowed_action to my BlogHolder_Controller.. i try to use Object::useCustomClass('BlogHolder_Controller','BlogHolderControllerExtender') and i get the error

"Action 'showCategory' isn't allowed on class BlogHolder_Controller"

BlogHolderControllerExtender extends BlogHolder_Controller. can anyone tell me the right way to do this?

I did have the code you mention in my BlogEntry.ss file but, owing to this issue, have decided not to pursue using the blog module at least until the production release of 2.4 and a compatible blog module that, I hope, will resolve this issue.

Hi,

You can create a group where Forum members will be saved and give this group Blog management permission.
They will be able to post comments in the front-end but not access to the CMS.
