Advice: Blog = News feed?

I was looking to make the front page of my site an announcements/news feed.
I was wondering if I ought to just use the blog module, or if there is some other feature/widget/function that would be more appropriate for this.

Blog module should work fine for news or if you want a simple news feed check out tutorial 2 which covers building a news site.
