Do you mean an example code wise or just a site using a customized blog?

I can think of a couple big sites I've used which use the blog module for a magazine type site. Some of the features have been released, other features are client IP but here's some examples.

http://www.womensconference.org/ (lots of small blogs)
http://www.peoplesworld.org/

Most other sites I've seen use the module pretty much out of the blog (like ss.org's blog)

Sorry like I said, most of the code is client specific code and they probably want to retain the IP for it. Several things have been integrated back from various projects - like the multiple BlogHolder under a single BlogTree and other tweaks to allow the modules to be extended but thats about it.
