This is a guest post from Aaron Brockhurst at Covenant Solutions, who have been doing great work connecting SilverStripe to Facebook.
Social media marketing is growing at a tremendous rate, as more and more brands embrace Facebook and Twitter as a means to raise their brand presence online, and increase business revenues from these marketing channels.
It's wintertime (at least here in the Southern Hemisphere), so the ideal time for reading a good book by the fire – or at the beach for the lucky ones north of the equator. And of course it's hard to find a more thrilling topic than SilverStripe!
Packt Publishing has just released a new book for everybody interested in the topic: SilverStripe 2.4 – Module Extensions, Themes, and Widgets, written by Philipp Krenn. Philipp has been involved with SilverStripe for a while, starting with building our first database abstraction layer during Google Summer of Code 2007.
The English edition of the SilverStripe book is now in libraries in Wellington, the home of SilverStripe.
Due to popular demand the books are already on loan, but you can reserve the book online through both the Hutt City Libraries and Wellington City Libraries websites, as seen below:
Copies of the SilverStripe book are selling like hotcakes! It took just four days for Amazon.com to sell all of their initial stock of SilverStripe: The Complete Guide to CMS Development.
The screenshot below shows Amazon down to their final copy, and was snapped during the weekend. Amazon.com has since restocked the book—so head off and buy a copy!
Amazon.com has the SilverStripe book in stock!
As of a few hours ago, SilverStripe: The Complete Guide to CMS Development is ready for shipping from Amazon.com, and priced at USD31.49. To purchase the book, visit Amazon (and feel free to share this link with your colleagues and friends):
Two advance copies of the English SilverStripe book have just arrived at our office. This is exciting stuff—months of effort have gone into writing this book so it's wonderful to finally see it in print!
Our publisher, Wiley, informs us that shipments of the book are already on their way to stores around the world, so if you pre-order it on Amazon.com you might have some bedtime reading later this week.
Work on the English SilverStripe book is steadily progressing!
Pre-orders of the book have been possible through Amazon.uk since April. As of today you can pre-order the book in US dollars from Amazon.com, too.

Our first English SilverStripe book is in progress and you can now pre-order it! We anticipate it will be published by the end of August.
One of the world's largest book publishers, Wiley, has agreed to license our 450-page German SilverStripe book (pictured) from the German publisher and translate it into English. The effort of updating and translating the book is being done by our core developers, including Ingo Schommer who co-authored the initial book.
Just days after the book's launch, the 450-page German SilverStripe book now has a bestseller status on Amazon.de!
It is currently near the top of the CMS bestsellers, as well as doing well in its 'parent' categories: web design, programming & webdesign, and computing & internet.
"SilverStripe – Das umfassende Handbuch" is now in German bookstores and available online to purchase for €39.90.
At 450 pages, it provides a more structured and comprehensive set of SilverStripe technical documentation than what is currently available at doc.silverstripe.com, so we strongly encourage German developers to buy the book and become a much more educated, sophisticated SilverStripe developer!
