SilverStripe 3.0 beta 3: Fewer tabs, more awesome

Posted by on 28 May 2012

Core Developer Ingo Schommer is a bit of an icon in the SilverStripe community. Ingo is the person that bundles a lot of the community’s contributions and feeds it back into the core. In his free time, Ingo loves to work on documentation for SilverStripe which eventually resulted in the first SilverStripe book. He also has an impressive 80’s pop music collection in his iTunes library. Going back in time also meant moving back to Germany last year. Due to the time difference between NZ and DE, he now works crazy hours remotely for SilverStripe.

We’re proud to announce the third beta release of SilverStripe 3.0! As you might expect, the changes get smaller and more incremental. A lot of the commits revolve around polishing the user experience following on from our usability tests.

Usability Testing for SS3

Posted by Kerstin Schuman on 9 May 2012

One month ago, Senior Project Manager Julian Meadow (aka J), along with colleagues Paul Clarke and Ryan O'Hara, usability tested SilverStripe 3.0 beta 2 with a number of clients around Wellington, to better understand if the user interface is intuitive or if there are areas that could be improved. I sat down with J to hear more about the long and winding road that is usability testing.

Why did you decide on a usability test for SilverStripe 3.0?

After more staff within SilverStripe became involved with the development of SilverStripe 3.0 and started playing with the early beta releases, we realised there were a number of usability issues that needed to be addressed.
