This is installed in my lab section for testing and theming so I completely removed the old one and database and started from scratch installing 2.2.0
hit install and I get this error...
Fatal error: Class 'Auth_Yadis_PHPSession' not found in /public_html/lab/silverstripe/auth_openid/code/OpenIDAuthenticator.php on line 330
I can't refresh and get past that... anybody have any ideas what's going on?

Not certain, although do note that the openid folder is optional; you could remove it if you don't want OpenID support. That might get you further while someone figures out the actual problem.
At this point it doesn't seem I have much of a choice in the matter.

You mean I can actually remove the 'auth_openid' directory in the basic silverstripe install on my server? When I do that, the OpenID tab still shows up in the CMS login window...
