please help with mod_rewrite

i'm installing on a remote server. everything with the install is fine except for the last line under "Webserver Configuration" where i get "I can't tell whether mod_rewrite is running. You may need to configure a rewriting rule yourself." i know that others in this forum have had the same issue. none of them have found a solution that works, at least not one that i've seen.

can someone help or point me to where help can be found?

This has been fixed in 2.2.2-rc2, which will be released very shortly.
