I'm having an issue with logging in using OpenId on the forums here. I suspect that something isn't quite handled properly.

Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding the intended use of OpenID.

I went ahead and registered manually using the register form so that I could comment... but I was kind of expecting to just be able to put my OpenID url into the field, verify and login, and have an account with SREG, or at the very least, have the rights to post.

That didn't happen. And I just got blank pages (or 500 server errors) on the forum when trying to login via openid.

I'm using the phpMyID scripts setup as my own id provider, through my own url. So I haven't tried logging in via openid at a huge number of sites yet, but I know that my setup works fine (and as I expect) with Blogger comments right now.

You can test the behavior at the phpMyID test page, http://phpmyid.com/
It does pretty much the same thing that I was getting. Although sometimes, instead of simply an entirely blank page, I got an error saying: "Either your account is not enabled for OpenID/i-name authentication or the entered identifier is wrong. Please try again."

So is this just setup differently than I expect, or is something wrong here?
