Site Search Tutorial not woking for me

I've followed the tutorial to the letter, but i am getting

Fatal error: Call to a member function XML_val() on a non-object in /tmp/silverstripe-cache-home-seolondon-www-www/.cache.home.seolondon.www.www.mysite.templates.Layout.Page_results.ss on line 27

Any help on what this means?

Try just opening Page_results.ss and removing code bit by bit till it works and work backwards to find out what bit is causing the issue.
