I've just installed SilverStripe 2.2.2 on dreamhost, and it said I should turn on allow_call_time_pass_reference

What are the effects if I do not turn this on? Because on Dreamhost it looks like a bit of a misson to change the php.ini

SS should be able to run / install without it on. I dont know why its even recommended. Can you still get it to run without allow_call_time?

Yep it's running, and it appears perfectly fine. I wonder if anything will be affected
