Hello to all!

I'm new to SS and have been digging through the Wiki, Forums, Demo and all the rest of the info available on SS in the last few days as I'm one of those guys on the apparently neverending quest for the perfect CMS.

But SilverStripe just might end this search of mine. It really looks great, has a lot of tiny thought-through details that make me love it and is supposably easy enough to use for non-geeks (of which I have to think of, too).

On my 'research' on SS-Development it struck me that things are moving forward quite quickly - which is great! Especially the projects from this year's Google Summer of Code seem great. The downside of this fast-paced progress is that a guy alien to the system (like me!) loses track of what's possible with SS 2.0 (now), 2.1 (upcoming) and future versions.

I've read a lot of "[...] might be integrated in 2.1" or "will possibly be integrated in 2.1" or "This bugfix will probably find its way into the 2.1[...]". This made me very unsure about the features actually integrated into the upcoming 2.1 release. I know of the usability-audit & its consequences as well as the approached code-cleanup to gain more system-responsiveness. But what else will be in 2.1?

Will the projects from Google Summer of Code already be in the 2.1 release? What about a seamless integration of SS and Wordpress (I've read this somewhere...)?

I'm really longing for a comprehensive feature-list of 2.1 and possibly a glimpse into the future development-direction of SS. Could you provide such a thing or is the current progress on SS too fluid to make any such statement? It would sure ease the process of getting a comprehensive and comprehensible ;) overview over SS! Thank you!!

The main features for SilverStripe 2.1.0 are:
- Theme support, with a themes repository on silverstripe.com
- Widget support, this will be used in the Blog module which will be released concurrently
- Better extension API, allowing modules to do more complex things with the core - see the subsites module
- Unit testing support

Most of the GSOC code will not make it into the 2.1.0 release. Most of the code will be merged in and released in subsequent 2.1 releases, while some of the more complex code will be part of the 2.2 release. There are also some other things regarding configuration and installation of modules, themes & widgets - see the discussion on the development mailing list.

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you for your reply!

Full blog-support & a great API to work with are great news! I'm really looking forward to getting my hands dirty with the final 2.1.

I still have some questions though:
- What about I18N-support? Will it make its way into 2.1 or will it be a part of 2.2?
- Will Folder-Structure simulation be possible? I mean: Can URLs someday look like http://www.my-domain.com/main-category/article-title.html instead of the non-folder-structured http://www.my-domain.com/article-title.html ?
- Is there a roadmap on which I could see the planned outline for releases following 2.1? I'd like to know when 2.2 is planned to be released (although I know that release-dates are always subject to change!).

Thank you for your answers! It's really great to get info from the Core-Developers just like that!

Its merged into trunk right now (i.e. you can get it from SVN as I speak); therefore 2.2

Probably not for 2.2; we have enough to introduce into 2.2 to worry about.

Most of the code of 2.2 is now in SVN and requires rigourous testing. If you were to help us test it that'd speed it up :) 2.2 will be out in a matter of weeks, all going well.
