We're currently looking for a community member who would be willing to translate a book text from German to English.

Specifically this means translating around 450 pages of the SilverStripe book which will be published through Galileo in February 2009 (http://www.amazon.de/SilverStripe-umfassende-Handbuch-Steven-Broschart/dp/3836212951/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232260753&sr=8-1)

A decent understanding of both German and English is a prerequisite. Preferrably you are a native speaker in one of the languages, and already have written publications in the other language. You don't have to be a linguistic master or professional translator, but you should feel comfortable in expressing larger bodies of text in a coherent fashion. Technical experience in SilverStripe and PHP helps, but is not strictly required - we will assist you with the technical bits and proofread everything.

There will be some compensation, although it won't be at the hourly rate of a professional translator - its a good way to give back something very valuable to the community: Making the by far largest SilverStripe documentation effort available to most of our users.

If you don't feel like translating the whole book, we can talk about doing partial translations as well.
