I have a section on my site which displays many company thumbs that link through to album pages with pictures of that company's products... however some of these company's do not have any products.
Is it possible that on these company thumbs there is no link through to next page?? so if no album pictures no link on thumb.

the answer is simply to put the following if statement around the href tag
<% if GalleryItems %>
