Has anyone come up with a way to search the content of DOM dataobjects in 2.4?

I've seen several posts asking/discussing this but none have had working solutions.
I've also seen the suggestions by SS and others to use the Sphinx search module but I am not able to install Sphinx on my shared hosting environment.

This is the closest I've seen to answer but it doesn't seem to work in 2.4

Half of the content in my site is in DOM dataobjects so it's becoming a real problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yup, I hear ya. It's become a real problem for us, too. We've been really pleased with GoogleSearch, and have written a module for it. It's very easy to implement, it's the best search algorithm out there, and if you can cough up the $100 a year, you can get rid of the branding and gain control over reindexing your site.
