Personally I prefer to manage it through the forum itsef, but let's try the rss way :)
Also you could raise feature requests as an issue on https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-forum/issues, as the SilverStripe forums are an implementation of that module (I keep forgetting that route myself :-) )
