Hi there,

I was reading through Sam Minnee's post here (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/silverstripe-dev/GD_vcU1SaRI)

Wondeing if there has been any work done on this so that we can AUTO switch DB servers if master is unavilable and make the site Read-Only

Setting canEdit to false by a DataExtension should work for most places by now. But SiteTree and SiteConfig has special permissions for admin users... and you can still run custom queries. So maybe it's better to use the module staticpublisher for this kind of thing instead -- just to be safe.
