Downloaded current version and unzipped... set up my webserver stuff and pointed at the SilverStripe page

Error check-php.php not found!

True enough, it isn't there. I changed the URL to point directly to index.php and it installed fine. Very surprisingly at the end of the install it tells you to delete index.php. I don't understand that at all - how does it work with no index.php??

I now have a working /admin section and nothing else. If I go to the "home" page I still check the check-php error and I no longer have an index.php to try.

What have I missed?

It uses a .htaccess file. Your homepage checkphp error could be caused by caching of the install files. Try emptying your browser cache or a different browser
