I am new to SS and the scripting language and I hope I don't have to be an expert to achieve this.

I just want to create a home page based on any existing template that has multiple columns in it where I can place clickable images and text in the columns. Is this hard? Are there any online tutorials where I might be able to get some help?

I do have an extensive coding background but not in the scripting language that SS uses nor PHP but I can follow a reasonable tutorial.

Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks

Larry

Hiya,

Welcome to SilverStripe. This is really easy once you know how but you'll need to know how to do a few things, such as:
* Adding DB fields to a new page type
* Showing them in the CMS area
* Outputting them in the template

I'd consider looking through the tutorials - they're really good. #2 in particular should help, but start at #1!

Cheers,

Thanks. I had hoped I hadn't need to delve in to the guts of the system but it seems like I have to. Oh well - set aside some time this weekend to dig in.
