Simplestripe theme navigation issue

Complete noob here to php, css, etc so please excuse the simple question.

I've installed the simplestripe theme and not amended anything. When looking at the draft site however the navigation does not work when clicking on the home link on the menubar at the top, bottom, or on the name in the top left. Clicking on About Us and Contact Us works correctly, I just can't get back to the home page! (I've done a dev/build.)

Update: It seems that the navigation only works if I've a user defined form on the page. If I add a blank new page I cannot navigate back to the home page from it, but if I create a new user defined form page, navigation back to the home page works!

Can someone point me in the right direction in how to fix this?
