I added the Login widget to a couple of my pages. In the draft site I can see that those pages are logged in. But when I click on log out to try to see the difference between the login protected pages and the regular pages, I become unable to see any of the pages, even those that I didn't make login required. It says this:

You must log in with your CMS password in order to view the draft or archived content. Click here to go back to the published site.

I think this may be as simple as you not being able to see the pages because they're not published?

You won't be able to see any of the draft site unless you're logged in.
You won't be able to see any unpublished pages without logging in until they're published.

Pick main page, that is to say not a child page, make sure it's published that the access tab allows anyone to view it.
Logout and check that you can see the page.
Then try adding the security you want.
